CDN Grote Brogel (28th June 1998)

Evelyne Van Beuningen with CozumelIt's a rainy day, and the sun won't shine, it's a rainy day and the sun won't shine.... This song became pretty famous in Belgium. Why? Because it illustrates the typical Belgian weather. The breugelhoeve made four rings in their huge outside jumping arena which were all in perfect condition. Not too heavy, not too hard, just perfect. CDN Dendermonde was held the same day, but only in Grote Brogel the Grand Prix was ridden. Three combinations showed
up. Ann D'Ieteren didn't ride a terrific test, her rein back was full of resistance and her flying lead changes were of doubtable quality, yet as usual Iguazu (BWP by Romeo) excels in her piaffe and passage. The score of 60.20% was a bit too high. Ludo Verbraeken rode a nice test with no major mistakes but the combination still has to grow more. Juturn is not able to sty high above all the time and the piaffe still needs a lot of work. Yet, the trot tour was just magnificent with great traversal movements and wonderful extensions. The combination got 57% and placed second. When Ann and Ludo would switch places, the scores would have been more realistic! Ludo commented on his test: "I'm very content about this test when you look at the circumstances. Juturn was tired and he had the tension to lean on the reins. I didn't make any major mistakes; all my tempi changes were good, the trot tour was great. It's just that you can't expect that I would score 60% ++ since this is only my second Grand Prix. Juturn Ludo Verbraeken with Cozumeland I still have to grow as a combination." Christine Pieters and Wolibrie were a real joke. The rider, who recently decided to braid her hair in small rasta's, rode with her top hop on and loose hair. Just terrible, how unorganized and unstylish. Just before Christine entered the ring, she decided to give the audience an impression of what a great piaffe her Wolibrie has. While the horse wasn't lifting his feet even one inch from the ground, she smiled like she was Anky van Grunsven. Her performance was just like the impression of her piaffe, lousy, messy and not elegant. One positive thing can be said of this combination. Wolibrie was definitely a horse with good potential but that seems to be lost in time. In the Intermediaire II Evelyn van Beuningen made her debut by riding a wonderful test with her KWPN Cozumel. She scored 64.21%
